Crown Correction Services in Northeast Ohio

A flat gravel driveway is a failing gravel driveway. The #1 cause of potholes and soft spots is a loss of 'crown'—the raised center that allows water to shed to the sides instead of pooling in the middle. At GravelBoss, we don't just spread new stone over a flat driveway. We use precision LiDAR to measure existing elevation points, then use industrial box blades to carve a perfect 3% crown back into your base layer, giving rain and snowmelt a place to go.

How We Restore the Crown

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a gravel driveway crown?

A crown is the raised center of a gravel driveway. It slopes down to the edges at a 2-3% grade, allowing water to shed off the sides instead of collecting in the middle.

Why does my driveway keep losing its crown?

Traffic, plowing, and natural settling slowly push stone to the outer edges. Without semi-annual maintenance or regular grading, the center eventually sinks, forming a “bowl” that holds water.

Can you just add more stone to build the crown?

Adding stone without ripping the base creates a temporary fix. The new stone won't lock into the hardpan beneath it and will quickly wash away. We always grade the base first.
