What Does Drive Rebuild Include?

Drive Rebuild includes regrading, drainage correction, compaction, and fresh stone when the existing driveway no longer has enough recoverable material. It is the right tier for severe washouts, thin gravel, failed edges, or driveways where maintenance and restoration would not hold.

01
Full-Length Regrade
Box blade and power rake reshape your existing base. The foundation gets a complete structural reset before any new stone goes down.
02
Crown Restoration
We rebuild proper 2–4% crown slope so water sheds to the edges instead of pooling. Crown loss is the #1 cause of driveway failure.
03
2″ Fresh Crusher Run
A full 2-inch layer of #304 limestone (or equivalent) is spread, graded, and worked into the surface. This is what makes it look and feel brand new.
04
Vibratory Compaction
Full-length compaction pass with our CAT 275 XE vibratory roller bonds new stone to existing base for a tight, stable, long-lasting surface.
05
Drainage Slope Correction
We adjust the grade so water flows away from your home and off the driveway surface. Proper slope prevents 80% of future driveway problems.
06
Before & After Photos
Every job is documented with before and after photos so you can see exactly what changed. Great for insurance and property records.
07
Material Consultation
We help you choose the right stone — #304, #57, or specialty aggregate — based on your traffic, soil type, and aesthetic preference.

What a Full Recovery Looks Like

Once runoff has carried the surface off a slope, there is not enough material left to work with — raking bare subsoil accomplishes nothing. A driveway this far gone needs its shape rebuilt and fresh stone brought in to hold it.

Troy Township, Geauga County, OH

Runoff had cut channels straight down this sloped Troy Township driveway and carried most of the surface stone out to the road. The rebuilt drive has full, even cover from the garage down to the apron, with heavier stone set along the edges to hold the shoulders on the grade. On a slope like this one, controlling where the water runs is the whole job.

How Much Could Drive Rebuild Cost?

Drive Rebuild cost depends on driveway size, drainage failure, slope, stone depth, and how much new material is needed after the surface is reshaped. The calculator gives a planning range, then GravelBoss confirms the right scope before recommending a full rebuild.

Common Questions

How much does Drive Rebuild cost?

Drive Rebuild runs $2,500 to $6,000. It is the full restoration tier, and the range reflects driveway length and how much new material the base needs. The price is fixed after the Grade Scan.

When is Rebuild the right call?

When the base is gone, not just the surface. Signs: stone has disappeared into the subgrade so you are driving on mud, potholes come back within weeks no matter how often they are filled, or the driveway has never had a proper base under it. At that point redistributing surface stone accomplishes nothing because there is nothing sound underneath.

How is this different from a tailgate dump of gravel?

A tailgate dump puts new stone on top of a failed base, and it fails again the same way within a season because the underlying problem was never addressed. Rebuild reworks the base, establishes correct crown and pitch, and compacts new material in lifts so it locks together instead of migrating.

What kind of stone do you use?

It depends on what the driveway does. Base and surface layers serve different jobs, and the right combination depends on traffic, slope, and how wet the ground stays. We specify it as part of the quote rather than defaulting to whatever is cheapest that week.

How long does a Rebuild take?

Most residential rebuilds are a one to two day job. The driveway is usable when we leave.

Will it hold up to heavy trucks?

That is what a proper base is for. Tell us up front if you have deliveries, equipment, horse trailers, or a septic truck that comes through — it changes the base depth and material spec, and it is much cheaper to build for it than to rebuild again.
