How to Handle a Gravel Driveway in Burton
If the rain just sits there on the stone, the drive has lost its shape. On a slope, a flat drive still sheds some water downhill. Not while it is soup. Grading a saturated clay base pumps mud into the stone. Once the thaw is over and the ground firms in late spring, the drive can be reshaped damp, which is when stone compacts best. Fall is the other good window, and it sends the drive into winter already shedding water.
It changes where the strength goes. Anything that follows the same line every trip, whether it is a wagon, a grain truck or a delivery van, needs a firmer base in that path and at the turn-in. We look at how the drive is actually used before choosing between a Restore and a Rebuild.
