Gravel Driveway Repair
Chagrin Falls, OH

The village of Chagrin Falls grew up around three waterfalls on the Chagrin River, and its gravel drives are mostly on the lots that slope toward the river and on the wooded edges of town. On those slopes rain runs down the drive instead of off it, carving ruts and carrying stone to the bottom. The fixes: break the run so water leaves the surface before it picks up speed, and give the edges a way to let it go. Plenty of village drives are paved, so gravel here is often a short lane, a rear drive or a parking pad. Drive Rake starts at $1,050 including the $300 setup fee; slopes that need diverters are Drive Rebuild, from $2,800. The guarantee is in writing.

Gravel driveway recovery · Northeast Ohio

We fix your driveway, and the reason it keeps breaking.

Potholes, ruts and puddles come back where the water sits. We find where the water goes and fix that first, then rework the stone that is already there and compact it.

A Grade Scan is $149: a measured survey of your driveway’s grade and drainage. Every job is quoted in writing and carries a written guarantee.

How to Handle a Gravel Driveway in Chagrin Falls

If the drive runs downhill toward the river and ruts every storm, the water is traveling the length of it. Down a pitch it gathers speed, and fast water lifts gravel. Break the run: shape the drive so it sheds to the side, and set diverters at intervals that send the water off the surface before it builds up. That's Drive Rebuild, and on a short village drive it may only be needed on the steepest stretch.

If the edges have grown a grass-and-stone ridge, water can't get off even where the drive has some shape. On a slope that water runs down the edge and undercuts it; on the flatter parts it sits and softens the clay. We take the ridge off, put the stone back into the drive, and give the water a shallow swale to follow. Where it ends up matters: water from a lot above the river should reach an outlet on your own ground, not a neighbour's drive.

If you're on one of the lots that falls toward the river, keep the stone on the drive. Gravel that washes into the lawn and down the bank is stone you bought twice. The Chagrin through the village has been a state scenic river since 1979. Before changing where water leaves your property, or anything involving a pipe, ask the village service department what applies, and call 811 before any digging.

If your gravel is a short lane, a rear drive or a parking pad in the older part of the village, the job is smaller. Rework the stone, pull out the weeds and the soil that built up in it, compact it, and put a little fall on it so rain leaves. Drive Rake or Drive Restore usually covers it at the floor price. Planning to add or widen a gravel area? Ask the village building department first; codes can set what a parking area may be surfaced with.

What We Fix in Chagrin Falls, OH

🌊

Slope Diverters Toward the River

On drives that run downhill to the Chagrin, water is turned off the surface at intervals so it can't gather speed, and the crown is rebuilt to hold on the grade. Part of Drive Rebuild, scoped to the steep stretch only.

🧹

Edge Ridge Removal

The grass-and-stone ridge along the shoulders gets cut back and the stone goes back into the drive, so rain can finally leave the surface instead of running down the edge and undercutting it.

🅿️

Village Lanes and Pads

Short gravel lanes, rear drives and parking pads get the weeds and built-up soil raked out, the stone remixed and compacted, and a little fall so rain runs off. Usually priced at the Drive Rake or Drive Restore floor.

⛰️

Washed-Down Stone Recovered

Stone that migrated to the bottom of a sloped drive is pulled back up and reworked rather than replaced. Most of it is still on the property; it's just at the wrong end of the drive.

FAQ — Chagrin Falls, OH

Most short lanes and pads land at a floor price: Drive Rake from $1,050 or Drive Restore from $1,500, and both include the $300 setup fee. A sloped drive that needs diverters is Drive Rebuild, from $2,800. You get a written price, based on the size and condition of the drive, before any work is booked.

Ask the village. In Chagrin Falls, driveway pipes and work near the street are the village's to decide, so the service department is the first call. We don't put in or replace culverts; we tell you whether the crossing is the problem and shape the drive to it. Call 811 before digging.

Fall is a good time for it. A sloped drive that goes into winter rutted fills with ice, and the plow strips whatever shape is left. Reshaping before the first snow means meltwater runs off the side. Plowing with the shoes raised an inch or two for the first snows saves stone too.

Two reasons, usually. The plow and the tires push it off the edges, and water running down a sloped drive carries it along. We pull that stone back in, rework it, and shape the drive so rain crosses it and leaves instead of running down it.

It's written into the proposal: a 90-day warranty on our workmanship, the same for Rake, Restore and Rebuild. Under our proposal terms it doesn't cover plow damage, acts of nature or ordinary settling. A sloped gravel drive still needs a light regrade from time to time, and we'll say roughly how often.
