Gravel Driveway Repair
Mayfield Heights, OH

Mayfield Heights is built out, and nearly every driveway in the city is paved. The gravel that remains is usually a rear drive, a side pad for a boat or trailer, a shared lane behind a row of homes or an access strip at the edge of an older lot. On this rising ground, clay loam over till, water runs along the slope rather than soaking in, so those strips wash at the high end and puddle at the low end. Rework the stone and give it a slope that sends water off. Short runs usually price at the floor: Drive Rake $1,050, Drive Restore $1,500, each including the $300 setup fee. Check with the city building department before adding gravel. The written guarantee sits in the proposal.

Gravel driveway recovery · Northeast Ohio

We fix your driveway, and the reason it keeps breaking.

Potholes, ruts and puddles come back where the water sits. We find where the water goes and fix that first, then rework the stone that is already there and compact it.

A Grade Scan is $149: a measured survey of your driveway’s grade and drainage. Every job is quoted in writing and carries a written guarantee.

How to Handle a Gravel Driveway in Mayfield Heights

If one end of the gravel is washed out and the other end is a puddle, the slope is doing it. The city sits where the Portage Escarpment rises out of the lake plain, so plenty of lots fall from one side to the other. Water runs the length of a gravel strip, lifting stone at the top and dropping it at the bottom. Drive Restore reshapes the stone so water crosses the strip and leaves it, then compacts it. It's the same stone, put back where it does some good.

If the pad is full of small holes and loose stone but otherwise sound, a surface rework is enough. Drive Rake loosens it, mixes the fine material back in so the stone binds again, fills the holes from what's there and compacts it. For a boat pad or a side strip, that's usually the right size of job, and it keeps the stone you already paid for in use. If the pad has sunk in the middle rather than just gone loose, it needs a reshape instead, and we'll say which.

If a lane is shared by several homes, the part everyone uses fails first. We can walk it with the owners and price the shared stretch on its own, so the decision isn't stuck with one household. The fix is usually a reshape and compaction; if a pipe or a street connection is involved, that's for the city's service department to rule on. Each household sees its share on paper before anyone commits to anything.

If you want more gravel, a wider pad or a different surface, ask the city before any work is ordered. Codes in built-out suburbs can set what a driveway or parking area may be surfaced with, and the Mayfield Heights building department will tell you what applies to your lot. We'll describe the work in plain terms so the question you take them is clear. Asking first costs nothing.

What We Fix in Mayfield Heights, OH

↘️

Slope-Wash Correction

On lots that fall across the escarpment rise, gravel strips wash at the top and puddle at the bottom. Drive Restore reshapes the stone so water crosses the strip and leaves, instead of running its full length.

🚤

Boat and Trailer Pads

Side pads that carry a boat, camper or trailer get loosened, remixed with their fines and compacted under Drive Rake, so the stone binds together again and stops rutting when the weight is moved. Usually no new stone.

🤝

Shared Rear Lanes

A lane behind several homes gets walked with the owners and priced as its own section, so the shared stretch that fails first can be fixed without one household carrying the whole decision. Everyone sees the numbers.

FAQ — Mayfield Heights, OH

Yes. Drive Rake starts at $1,050 and Drive Restore at $1,500, and each of those includes the $300 setup fee. A side pad or short rear drive in Mayfield Heights usually lands right at one of those floors. Anything larger is priced by its size and condition and written down before work starts.

Ask the Mayfield Heights building department. Suburban codes can set what a driveway or parking area may be surfaced with and how large it can be, so check before adding, widening or resurfacing. Pipes and work at the street go through the city service department. We don't decide either one. Call 811 before digging.

Late spring through fall, once the clay loam has firmed. Sloped lots dry out sooner than the flat ones, so the upper end may be ready before the lower end. We grade while the stone is damp, not wet, so it compacts and binds. A fall job gives it shape before the plow.

Because water is running down the strip instead of across it, and carrying stone with it. On a lot with a fall to it, that's the most common pattern we see. Pulling the stone back up and giving it a cross slope is cheaper than adding more at the top.

Same as larger jobs: a 90-day workmanship warranty in writing, covering the grading, compaction and stone placement. The exclusions are in our proposal terms, and plow damage and normal settling are two of them. A gravel strip still needs light upkeep from time to time.
